Toshiba has come a long way since its first Android tablet, the 10-inch Thrive, last year. They are getting ready to release the Excite X10 to the world, and it’s made of some beautiful stuff.
It’s the thinnest 10-inch tablet yet released at 7.7mm thick, coming in 0.6mm thinner than the Asus Transformer Prime, but the construction is magenesium alloy, and pretty solid as a result. Weighing in at 535g, it’s extremely light but sports all the ports you’d expect from a feature-filled Android tablet.
It’s 10-inch display is 1280×800 resolution, and inside there is a dual-core 1.2Ghz TI OMAP 4430 processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB/32GB internal storage, a 5MP back shooter and 2MP front camera. Though it doesn’t have the same full-sized ports as the original (and chunky) Thrive, the Excite X10 has Micro-USB, HDMI, Micro SD ports along the side of its surprisingly attractive frame.
Honestly, it’s a great little tablet and a nice addition to the 2012 Android canon. It will ship with Android 3.2 Honeycomb but be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich shortly after launch, says a Toshiba official. No word on when it’s coming to Canada, but this WiFi-only tablet should be hitting the market in the first quarter of this year for $529 for the 16GB version and $599 for the 32GB.
