PowerAMP 2.0 hits Android Marketplace, best music app gets better

We are big, big fans of Max MP’s PowerAMP music player for Android, and with its 2.0 release, the best just got better.

Sure, those are big words but aside from perhaps Winamp and Doubletwist, the third-party Android music player market is cornered by PowerAMP and for good reason. With full support for skinning, a 10-point graphical equalizer and the ability to play back nearly every file format including OGG and FLAC, PowerAMP tends to appeal to the more hardcore music listeners out there. It also has a gorgeous, intuitive interface and customizable gestures for quick song transitions.

PowerAMP reads the compatible files on your SD card and brings them into your library. It will search out and complete any metadata that isn’t complete within the file, and with a free plugin, download lyrics from the net. For those with powerful enough devices, it has full OpenGL support for cover art animation. And to top it all off, there are four widgets to choose from as well as the ability to replace your lock screen.

There is a 15-day trial for those who are skeptical of spending $4.60 for the full version, but it’s probably not going to be the worst thing you spend your money on this week.
