Bell recently marketed four of their new smartphones to “Superphones”. As we’ve stated before these are devices that rise above other in screen size, power and speed. The term Superphone is not new, Google used this once describe the Nexus One and RIM declared they’ll release their own set of Superphones sometime in the future (probably QNX-based devices). However, it’s new for a Canadian carrier to pick up the branding and gives a good indication of future devices.
There’s no doubt that manufacturers are pumping out devices with Superphone specs, customers are demanding them. Bell recently added a new “Superphone” category to their website to differentiate these devices from others. Now they’ve actually taken it to another level and created a comparison guide. On the left side you have their 4 devices: Samsung Galaxy S II 4G, Motorola Atrix 4G, HTC Sensation 4G and the Motorola XT860 4G. On the right is about 100 different Smartphones, some of which are still powerful and very capable, but not up to the aura of a Superphone. Overall it’s well designed and gives you up to 5 areas to compare: Speed, Power, Screen, Camera/Video and Thinness.
Some devices on the list are not available in Canada (hopefully we’ll see them soon) and other new devices haven’t been added yet (Bold 9900 etc). Ironically missing from the list is the Apple iPhone 4, or any iPhone version for that matter. This is probably not a Bell issue but an Apple issue. Apple is incredibly strict with their policies and most likely didn’t give permission to Bell to have the iPhone included in the comparison list. In addition, you can’t directly compare Superphone to Superphone. If you wish to do this you’ll have to change the url to match up the Superphones. Overall it seems that the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Sensation are the winners so far in all categories.
