HTC says Desire will not be getting upgrade to Gingerbread

TELUS released the HTC Desire to a grand success. It was one of their most popular Android devices ever and it was at one point a flagship device for HTC. News spread fast last February for Desire users that the device would see an upgrade to OS 2.3 Gingerbread sometime in the Q2 time frame. Unfortunately, a note on HTC’s Facebook page today reveals otherwise.

“Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.”

We’ve reached out to TELUS to see if this impacts Desire owners in Canada.
