CWTA releases E911 video: Over 6 million calls are made each year via cellphone

The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) have created a dramatic video about the new Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) service that launched back in February. Each year there are over 6 million 911 calls made from a mobile device. In the video it says we should not program 911 into our speed dial because sometimes it accidentally causes the phone to dial, which wastes the operators time in answering true emergencies.

One of the main reasons the new E911 service was implemented was to get a better idea of where an emergency was taking place. Previously, a 9-1-1 call would have only received the cell number and the nearest tower location. Now, when a 911 call is placed it records the phone number and longitude and latitude coordinates.
