WIND Mobile chooses Andrew Solutions for E911 services

wind-logoWay back in January the CRTC ordered Canadian wireless carriers to upgrade its 911 system by February 1st, 2010. One of the main reasons for the upgrade is because the 911 dispatchers are missing some necessary equipment to locate emergency calls placed from a cell phone. From what we are hearing all the carriers are on track to deliver by this date.

Today, WIND Mobile announced they have selected Andrew Solutions to provide their network with enhanced wireless E911 services.

The Andrew Solution uses a combination of Assisted-GPS and hybrid technology that adds wireless network measurement information to the GPS location such as the time the call started, the power level of the mobile phone, and other info between the network base station and the phone.

Ken Campbell, CEO of WIND said “We are committed to creating the best wireless experience for Canadians which also includes ensuring their safety in times of emergency. Enhanced 911 technology helps ensure that emergency responders are better able to locate the position of a caller. That way, even if the caller is unable to speak or unsure of where they are, they can rest assured that help will be on its way.”
