Fizz is discontinuing its visual voicemail apps

Now if only Android's version actually worked

Fizz website on a smartphone.

Videotron’s sub-brand Fizz is notifying customers that it is discontinuing its visual voicemail apps.

Fizz shared the message on its website and sent it to customers via an automated text message. The message reads:

“The visual voicemail app for Android will be discontinued starting on November 13, 2026. Rest assured, your voicemail service will remain active. No action is required. You will be able to use your Android phone’s built-in visual voicemail feature, if your device supports this functionality.”

As noted in Fizz’s statement, you will still have access to visual voicemail and will instead use Android’s built-in visual voicemail. Fizz is also discontinuing the iOS app.

The telecom company notes on its website that visual voicemail is considered the basic voicemail for its mobile plans, no matter what it’s called in your plan (voicemail, visual voicemail). However, Fizz also notes on its website that to access visual voicemail, your mobile plan must include the voicemail option and data.

As noted in a Reddit thread about the discontinuation, one user said Fizz’s parent company, Videotron, has already discontinued its Visual voicemail app but doesn’t currently support Android’s built-in option.

There is only one slight problem, though: visual voicemail is not the most reliable feature. Personally, I have only ever gotten it to work once throughout my entire Android experience, and it still stopped working after only a year.

I’m not the only one with this experience either; users in the Reddit thread have also shared that they cannot get visual voicemail to work on a wide range of Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 9, Pixel 11, and even the OnePlus 11 Pro.

Some users also pointed out that they use third-party visual voicemail options like YouMail or VoIP.ms, but it does require call forwarding (even possibly Canada-wide call forwarding if it uses an out-of-province number), and it was noted that it does pollute your internal storage/music player with a bunch of voicemail files.
