Award-winning Canadian RPG Sea of Stars is coming to Android and iOS on April 7.

Originally developed by Quebec City-based Sabotage, the mobile port was handled by Prodigious and features optimized touch controls. It also only costs $11.99 in Canada, which is notable considering the game is in the $40-plus range across consoles and PC.

This is a particular steal since this is the full roughly 30-hour Sea of Stars experience that launched in 2023. Inspired by classic JRPGs like Chrono TriggerSea of Stars follows young Solstice warriors Zale and Valere on their efforts to stop the evil Necromancer. The game features stunning retro-inspired pixel art, solid turn-based combat where your timed inputs will buff your attacks and reduce incoming damage, and an excellent soundtrack from Eric W. Brown featuring contributions from none other than Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda himself. It’s also a standalone story set in the same universe as Sabotage’s first game, The Messenger.

All in all, Sea of Stars was one of our favourite games of 2023, and we weren’t alone in that. On top of strong critical acclaim and more than six total million players, Sabotage took home Best Indie Game at The Game Awards that year. An eight-hour DLC expansion, Throes of the Watchmaker, was released last year for free as a “thank you” to fans for the game’s success.

At the moment, Sabotage has confirmed it’s in active development on its third game, although it has yet to be formally unveiled. In the meantime, you can pre-register for Sea of Stars on mobile on the App Store and Play Store with a limited-time 10 per cent discount.
