OpenAI launches app store in ChatGPT

The company also says it's "exploring additional monetization options" for the storefront

OpenAI has launched an app store within ChatGPT on mobile and the web.

With this functionality, general users can browse all of the chatbot’s tools, while the SDK has been opened for developers to build experiences within the app.

On top of that, OpenAI is now referring to “connector” apps like Google Drive or Dropbox simply as “apps.” Per a support page, chat connectors are now called “apps with file search,” while deep research connectors are now “apps with deep research,” and synced connectors have become “apps with sync.”

Overall, the new section is divided into Feature, Lifestyle and Productivity categories. Once you find a desired app, you can simply hit “Connect” to authorize it to access ChatGPT. Once connected, you can then perform an @ mention to bring up a given app.

In a blog post, OpenAI notes this is still an “early phase” for this ChatGPT app store. Going forward, the company says it’s “exploring additional monetization options over time, including digital goods, and will share more as we learn from how developers and users build and engage.”
