The full list of nominees for The Game Awards 2024 has been revealed.

To start, here are the six games up for the coveted Game of the Year:

  • Astro Bot (Team Asobi/PlayStation)
  • Balatro (LocalThunk)
  • Black Myth: Wukong (Game Science)
  • Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (FromSoftware/Bandai Namco)
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (Square Enix)
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio (Studio Zero/Atlus)

Overall, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Astro Bot are tied for the most nominations with seven each. But perhaps even more notable: Balatro, the smash hit roguelike poker game, which hails from Canadian developer LocalThunk (his identity and city are secret), is the sole indie game to be up for GOTY. It was also nominated for Best Independent Game, Best Debut Independent Game, Best Game Direction and Best Mobile Game.

On that note, here’s everything nominated for Best Mobile Game:

  • AFK Journey (Lilith Games/Farlight)
  • Balatro (Localthunk)
  • Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket (Creatures Inc., DeNA/The Pokémon Company)
  • Wuthering Waves (Kuro Technology/Kuro Games)
  • Zenless Zone Zero (miHoYo/HoYoverse)

Additionally, here are the other Canadian nominees:

Star Wars Outlaws, which was co-developed by Ubisoft Toronto and stars Venezuelan-Canadian Humberly González, was nominated for Best Performance for González, Best Action-Adventure and Innovation in Accessibility.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest game from iconic Canadian developer BioWare Edmonton, has received a nod for Innovation in Accessibility.

And finally, EA Sports FC25, which hails from EA Vancouver, is up for Best Sports Game.

The Game Awards will be held this year on Thursday, December 12th in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be live-streamed via a variety of platforms, including The Game Awards’ YouTube and Twitch channels.

The show’s creator, Canada’s Geoff Keighley, says more details on programming, including teases for guests and game reveals, will be announced in the coming weeks. Fans can also begin voting in the different categories via The Game Awards’ official website and Discord server.
