Google is following in Apple’s footsteps by creating a new hidden email feature allowing users to use a fake email address when signing up for websites. Then anything sent to this new address will be forwarded to their actual email inbox.
Everyone’s inbox is loaded with spam, so having this option built into your Google account might be a huge win for Android users. However, it’s unclear when it’s coming out. It was discovered in an APK teardown by Android Authority, and then the publication found it in the Autofill settings on an Android phone, but clicking the button took them to a dead webpage. This does suggest that this feature might come out soon.
If this works like the Apple version, it should allow you to click ‘Sign in with Google’ on a webpage or app. Then, it gives you the option to use your normal email or a fabricated fake email that is forwarded to your inbox. This way, if you start getting a lot of spam, you can stop the emails from being forwarded to you and just use the fake email to sign into that site.
We still need to wait for Google to confirm the feature, but if it does come out, I’m sure either will be incredibly helpful.
