Virgin follows Fido, raises plan prices $5 and reduces data [Update]

Farewell $39/50GB, hello $44/20GB

Well, that didn’t take long. After Fido increased the prices of several plans, Bell’s Virgin Plus has followed suit.

As of the morning of September 11th, several plans on Virgin’s website had increased by $5. Virgin also stripped the Canada/U.S. calling bonus offered on its plans. (Update Sept. 12, 2024 at 9:36am ET: Virgin brought back Canada/U.S. calling, but only for the $54/60GB plan.) Here are the changes:

  • $44/20GB (previously $39/50GB)
  • $49/40GB (new)
  • $54/60GB (previosly $49/60GB)

The price changes only impact Virgin’s 4G plans, with the provider’s $65/75GB 5G plan remaining unchanged. Virgin also hasn’t changed its talk-and-text plan, though the $25/mo price is no longer reliant on a credit.

Virgin’s plans still include 4G data capped at speeds of up to 150Mbps, unlimited Canada-wide calling and unlimited international texting. Interestingly, Virgin no longer lists the streaming video quality cap on its plans, but it’s still in the fine print, so these plans will continue limiting video quality to 480p.

At the time of writing, Koodo still had its $39/50GB and $49/60GB 4G plans (after a $5/mo autopay discount), but who knows how long those offers will stick around now.
