Rogers-owned Fido has raised the prices of several plans by $5/mo.
The new pricing shows up on Fido’s website, and we’ve included a list highlighting what changed below:
- $49/20GB ($44 with autopay) – previously $44 ($39 with autopay).
- $54/40GB ($49 with autopay) – previously $49 ($44 with autopay) and with 50GB and Canada/U.S. calling.
- $59/60GB ($54 with autopay) – previously $54 ($49 with autopay).
Notably, the above plans are all bring-your-own-phone (BYOP) offers, which all include 4G LTE speed capped at up to 150Mbps and Canada-wide calling and texting. Fido offers one $64/60GB ($59 with autopay) plan for customers who wish to get a phone, though it’s not clear if this price was also impacted by the recent increases.
It’s a bummer to see Fido switch to higher prices like this, especially on the verge of iPhone 16 pre-orders going live. Notably, Fido was slow to join Telus’ Koodo and Bell’s Virgin Plus in August with the $39/50GB deal and adding Canada/U.S. calling. But now Fido is the first to increase prices, reduce data buckets, and remove Canada/U.S. calling add-on either.
At the time of writing, neither Koodo nor Virgin had followed suit, with both still offering $39/50GB and $49/60GB plans (Koodo’s prices also include a $5/mo autopay discount). But typically when one provider makes a change, the others follow, so we’ll see how long before Koodo and Virgin increase their prices.
Along with the higher prices, Fido is still charging an increased $70 connection fee despite an amendment to the Telecommunications Act prohibiting such fees. Koodo charges $70 as well, while Virgin remains at $60.
