Videotron’s Fizz Mobile has changed up its plan prices, raising data prices nearly across the board for Ontario, B.C. and Alberta.
The change was spotted by users on the r/FizzMobile subreddit, with redditor ‘myredditfizz’ putting together a handy table showing the new pricing. The redditor also pointed out that the price changes don’t impact existing plans, so current Fizz customers don’t need to worry unless they change plans.
Unlike other wireless providers, Fizz doesn’t offer set plan rates and instead allows customers to build a custom plan to suit their needs. Each option has it’s own set price that impacts the overall total. Per the graphic, the price of coverage options ($5 provincial, $8 Canada-wide or $12 Canada/U.S.) remains unchanged. Likewise, calling and texting features are still $4 and $2, respectively, and voicemail still costs $1. So a basic Canada-wide calling and texting plan with voicemail would run you $15/mo.
However, data prices have gone up. These are the new prices:
- 0GB – $0 (unchanged)
- 1GB – $7 (new)
- 3GB – $8 (up from $5)
- 6GB – $11 (up from $8)
- 10GB – $13 (up from $10)
- 15GB – $17 (up from $15)
- 20GB – $18 (up from $17)
- 30GB – $19 (unchanged)
- 50GB – $20 (unchanged)
- 60GB – $23 (unchanged)
- 80GB – $25 (unchanged)
The above pricing tacks on to your other plan options, so using that $15 talk and text plan from above, it’d now cost a total of $28/mo for 10GB, up from $25/mo.
Overall, these price increases are a bummer, especially since Fizz is one of the few providers offering smaller data amounts like 6GB and 10GB.
The new pricing comes as Fizz rolls out smartphone sales with a special offer to discount plans for people who buy a phone from Fizz.
