OnePlus is no stranger to trying new things.
On Friday, the Chinese smartphone maker — and soon to be TV manufacturer, as well — announced it plans to host a music festival in Mumbai, India in November. The company didn’t share a specific date for the festival but did note that it will highlight both international and local talent from across different musical genres.
The location makes a lot of sense: OnePlus is one of the most popular smartphone manufacturers in India, with a CounterPoint Research study from January revealing the company had captured 36 percent of the market.
In a statement issued to Android Central, Vikas Agarwal, OnePlus India general manager, said, “At OnePlus, we are constantly looking for new ways to engage with our community and create different experiences for them.”
He added, “Our community like our product has always at the heart of everything we do, and with this new venture, we hope to provide them with a new platform to interact with each other and with the brand on a unique new level.”
OnePlus isn’t the first smartphone manufacturer to host a music festival; Apple hosted many an iTunes festival in years past. All the same, it will be interesting to see how the company’s first musical foray turns out.
