A new filing in the Eurasian Economic Commission (ECC) database hints that new iPhone models could be on the way, possibly sooner than expected.
Consomac, a French website, first spotted the following device model numbers in the ECC database: A1920, A1921, A1984, A2097, A2098, A2099, A2101, A2103, A2104, A2105, and A2106.
Apple typically reveals new phones at its annual September iPhone launch event. It’s been rumoured for a few months that three new iPhones are expected to launch in 2018, including two OLED models and one less expensive LCD model.
Rumours have been swirling that a 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus could be on the way, or possibly a new version of the iPhone SE with a minor spec boost. That said, KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, an often-reliable source of Apple leaks, says that Apple likely won’t release a new version of the SE.
MacRumors reported that the ECC database was used to identify Apple’s new iPad back in February, a full month before the tablet’s official reveal.
Given the filing has been made at a time of year that’s unusual for Apple, it’s possible the tech giant could have plans to announce new phones at WWDC in June.
If this is true, it would be an out of the ordinary move for Apple.
