BioWare Edmonton reveals new IP ‘Anthem’ at EA’s E3 press conference

During EA’s Play E3 press conference, Canadian video game developer BioWare revealed its long rumoured new original title, Anthem.

A short teaser was shown off during the keynote, with the rest of the game set to be revealed at Microsoft’s E3 press conference tomorrow at 2pm PT/5PM ET, according to Sam Maggs, associate writer on Anthem. While we now know what Anthem looks like visually, it’s still unclear exactly what genre the title falls into, as well as what the game’s story is focused on.

BioWare initially teased Anthem back at E3 2014 when the developer mentioned that its Edmonton-based studio was working on a “completely new IP” set in a world that “feels real, and is alive and is constantly changing.”

Earlier this year EA teased that the game would be available before March 2018, though the title’s release date was eventually pushed back to the company’s 2019 fiscal year, running from April 2018 to March 2019.

Along with Anthem, EA also showed off A Way Out, a co-op-focused game where players break out of a prison, from the team behind 2013 indie darling Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Battlefront II multiplayer and singleplayer footage, and additional information about the Fast and the Furious-inspired Need For Speed Payback.

Of course, EA’s various sports franchises, including Madden 18 and FIFA 18 were also discussed, with a focus on both game’s singeplayer story modes.

MobileSyrup will be on the ground at Microsoft’s press conference tomorrow bringing you all the news directly from the company’s keynote.
