CanCon Podcast Ep. 43: Why watching video games is now more popular than playing them

This past week, Patrick O’Rourke had the opportunity to interview Canada’s own Bennett Piercy, a 16-year-old Pokémon player who won the 2015 US National Championship. The team is eager to learn from Patrick how this is a thing, and talk about the other aspects of gaming in 2016 that are somehow things: namely, the NES Classic, and video game couch potatoes.

Rob Kenedi, esteemed member of the CanCon crew, is finally back from his month of globe-trotting, and with him, brings stories from Web Summit — held this year in Lisbon, Portugal. Following Rob’s recount, the crew wonders if Canada’s presence at one of the world’s largest tech events was more flash than substance.

Tune in as CanCon’s podcast crew – Erin Bury, Managing Director of 88 Creative, Patrick O’Rourke, Senior Editor at MobileSyrup, Rob Kenedi, TWG’s Entrepreneur in Residence and host of the amazing #smallrooms podcast, and Douglas Soltys, BetaKit Editor in Chief – figures out how to avoid cocaine in Lisbon, and if they can join an eSports league.
