Far ahead of its expected reveal date at the Lenovo Tech World conference on June 9th, the Moto G4, G4 Plus, and the newest addition to the G4 family, the Play, have been announced today at a series of international events in India and Brazil. The Moto G4 is the only device in the lineup that will not be coming to Canada.
Business Insider says Motorola’s press team accidentally sent out a draft press release detailing the two phones. Now, however, the Moto G4 line is advertised on Motorola’s Canadian website and an official blog post has been released, so we can be sure of certain facts.
The two phones are the same size — both feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display covered by Gorilla Glass with a micro-textured back. Both are 7.9mm thick, and include a Snapdragon 617 1.5GHz octal-core processor as well as a 3,000mAh fast-charging battery.
The Plus variant, however, has a couple of extra bells and whistles. It features a fingerprint sensor, and a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera.
The phones will run Android 6.0.1 with the latest version of Motorola’s skin, Moto Pure.
The Moto G4 Plus is set to launch first, and is purportedly launching in India and Brazil before making its way to Canada and the rest of North America this summer.
The Moto G4 Plus comes in to different versions. In India, the 16GB version is priced at 13,499 Rs. (about $261 CAD), while the 32GB version is 14,499 Rs. (about $281 CAD).
The Moto G4 Play will launch in Canada later this summer. It features a quad core processor and a 2800Ah battery.
We’ve reached out to Motorola to find out details about the Canadian launch date, pricing and carrier availability of the three phones. We’ll update this story as soon as we get more information.
