Registration for Nintendo’s mobile chat app Miitomo starts February 17

We already know Nintendo has plans to release multiple mobile games over the next few years, with the first title slated to drop at some point in March.

While we still don’t have a final release date for the Japanese company’s first mobile app, called Miitomo, we now know when users can register to download the app.

Players interested in Miitomo can register for the game starting Wednesday, February 17th. In order to register, signing up for a Nintendo Network ID is required to receive a notification letting users know when the app will become available in March.

Miitomo Nintendo’s first official smartphone app will launch in the following countries: Canada, the United States, U.K. Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Miitomo is less of a traditional game and more of a chat app featuring Nintendo’s cute Mii virtual avatars. The app will reportedly place an emphasis on the company’s recently announced My Nintendo rewards program, which is set to launch alongside Miitomo in March.

Rumours indicate users will be able to earn points by playing Nintendo games, and then use the currency within Miitomo to unlock wallpapers and other Nintendo-related downloadable content.

Miitomo is expected to be released for both iOS and Android.
