We’ll all heard the idiom “a picture is worth a thousand words,” but for an app like Google Keep — which is, in part, all about distilling ideas into their simplest form — it’s taken a while to take that saying to heart.
Fortunately, that’s no longer the case. On Wednesday, Google announced Keep users on Android will soon be able to use the cult favourite app to draw and doodle.
Once the user has upgraded to the latest version of the app, they’ll find a new marker icon on the bottom of Keep’s main screen that lets them begin drawing. With only a couple available tools available with the launch of the feature (there are three pens, a selection tool and eraser), the goal here isn’t to one-up an app like FiftyThree’s Paper. That said, one nifty feature of the drawing implementation here is that it’s possible to doodle over a picture you’ve taken with your smartphone. Note owners will also be delighted to find out they can use their stylus to great effect here.
You can also start working on a doodle with Keep’s accompanying widget. Long pressing on the widget’s newly addition draw icon allows one to switch between the different drawing tools mentioned above.
Although the update was announced earlier today, it appears Google is rolling it out gradually. When I went to grab it from the Play Store, there was no option for me to update Keep. Thankfully, if you’re the impatient type, you can download the update from Android Police‘s APK Mirror website.
