Toronto-based theScore Inc. added a much-requested new feature to its iOS 8 app today, a Today View Widget that allows user to check scores and news without opening the app itself.
theScore has been growing tremendously over the past year, jumping 112% from its previous quarter results to 10.2 million monthly active users. Nearly half the company’s monthly users consume content through a mobile app.
The Today Widget comes after a previous NFL-specific update where it added rich visualizations for specific plays in the run-up to the Super Bowl. The company also made investments in its fantasy sports coverage with the acquisition of Swoopt late last year, and is putting together a large editorial team focused on eSports.
