Motorola updates Moto G to Android 4.4.4

Motorola has pushed the Android 4.4.4 update to the Moto G across all carriers and unlocked offerings. This includes the Koodo, Telus, Virgin, Videotron, Wind and Public Mobile versions, as well as the unlocked version sold in retail stores.

The device was already updated to Android 4.4.2 before most retail devices, but this smaller bump includes a considerably number of bug fixes and performance improvements that Google found after releasing the first few versions of KitKat. Specifically, the cumulative updates that include 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 focus on patching security issues in OpenSSL, improving power management and, especially on the Moto G, camera performance.

This update also brings support for Motorola Alert, the company’s new emergency contact app, as well as the ability to pause while recording video, and an updated phone dialler app that Google added to the Nexus 5 in Android 4.4.3.

To update your device, head to Settings/About phone/Software update.

Motorola says the same update for the Moto G LTE, available on Rogers and Fido, is currently in testing and will roll out shortly.
