Huawei tried to inject some excitement into the Mobile World Congress proceedings this week by unveiling a few new products, most exciting among them the 7-inch phone/tablet hybrid MediaPad X1.
As leaked last week, the MediaPad X1 is a truly strange device, but judging from early hands-on reviews, it looks to be quite effective at towing that line between phone and tablet. With a sleek metallic body, very slim bezels, and a lightweight build, the 7-inch device doesn’t look to be too ridiculous to be used as a phone.
It sports a 7-inch 1920×1200 pixel IPS display, a 1.6Ghz quad-core HiSense Cortex-A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear camera and a 5,000mAh battery. Weighing in at 239 grams, it’s not exactly light, but it is certainly svelte for its size.
No word on whether the Android 4.2-sporting MediaPad X1 will come to Canada, but we’re holding out hope. It does support LTE up to 150Mbps, so it should be compatible with many of the Canadian carriers.
