Samsung outlines KitKat upgrade plans for existing devices

Samsung outlined which devices are getting upgraded to KitKat today, and things are looking good for much of the Canadian market.

While it’s already known that the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, the company’s two current flagships, will be receiving Android 4.4.2, the company confirmed that almost every product powerful enough to run the software — including devices still running Android 4.1 like the Note 8.0 — will be upgraded.

The full list is below, and of course they are subject to carrier approval.

  • Galaxy Note 3
  • Galaxy Note II
  • Galaxy S4
  • Galaxy S4 mini
  • Galaxy S III
  • Galaxy S III mini
  • Galaxy Mega
  • Galaxy Note 8.0
  • Galaxy Tab 3
  • Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition

The list itself is US-centric, but the devices sold in Canada have heretofore been identical to their American counterparts. The company’s newest products, the Galaxy TabPRO and NotePRO series, which are currently up for pre-order in Canada, are shipping with Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and while the advantages over Jelly Bean are limited, we’ve noticed a number of trims and tucks, as well as performance enhancements, to justify the excitement for the above list.
