Google adds semantic call associations to “Ok Google” prompt in Android

Google has added a minor yet convenient way to call or text your contacts through Android’s “Ok Google” voice prompt.

It’s now possible to tap on the microphone icon (or say, “Ok Google” from the Nexus 5 launcher/Google Now launcher) and say, “Call mom,” or “Send a text to dad.” If neither family member is set up in your contacts as that informal name, the app will prompt you to make an association. Same with “my wife,” or “my husband.”

A small improvement that can go a long way to improving the hands-free calling experience.
