Skype for Android debuts Chat Heads-like functionality for video

Skype has introduced an intriguing new feature just for Android tablet users: picture-in-picture mode. The functionality mimics Facebook’s popular Chat Heads popovers, but extends it to video calls. When turned on, the chat window will float on top of other apps, letting users move it to a more convenient part of the screen while they perform other tasks. This bodes well for business conferences where Android users may want to reference documents or webpages while maintaining a video call.

The tablet-centric update also fixes a number of performance issues and bugs, and improves video messaging quality. Furthermore, the new version also makes it easier to scroll through long lists of contacts with a pinch gesture.

The Microsoft-owned company has been focused on improving its Android offering over the past year, and now tablet users should be happy that they can do something no other mobile platform can replicate.
