Twitter announced plans back in March to end support TweetDeck in ‘early May.’ While some of the core TweetDeck features have been included into the functionality of Twitter, today the company announced an official date for the iPhone and Android apps, plus Facebook integration.
On the company blog TweetDeck stated that “TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone will be removed from their respective app stores and will stop functioning on May 7. Our Facebook integration will also stop on May 7.”
Twitter acquired TweetDeck in May of 2011 for $40 million. Iain Dodsworth, founder of TweetDeck, stated at the time that “change may well be inevitable.” TweetDeck is not completely over. The app will live on via the web, plus on Chrome, Mac and PC apps.
