While we’re fending off the crowds at CES, iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners could be in for their own version of an exciting week. According to pod2g, the man who brought you an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4 and original iPad running iOS 5.0.1, an updated A5-compatible version could come as early as next week.
In a tweet earlier, he claims that he “made a step today for the A5 [devices]. With some luck we could expect a release in a week.”
The iPad 2 received an untethered jailbreak with iOS 4.3.3, but that was the last time users had any such love. Until now, the only iOS 5.0.1 jailbreaks for A5 devices have been tethered, meaning the device would have to be re-broken every time it rebooted. Untethered removes the stress of needing to be near a computer in case your iPhone or iPad needs a reboot.
We’ll bring you more as it comes, even if we’re in the middle of the crowds at CES.
