December 7th is going to be a good day in Toronto. No, it’s not because this is when Bell will be releasing the Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE – it’s because the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be up for grabs early, and also getting celebrated by a rock concert by Canada’s Sheepdogs. The festivities will kick off at Yonge and Dundas at 12:30pm.
“The wait is almost over for Galaxy Nexus and what better way to celebrate the launch of this highly anticipated smartphone than bringing one of Canada’s hippest rock bands to the heart of downtown Toronto for a free concert. The Sheepdogs are one of Canada’s most critically acclaimed independent rock bands notorious for their groovy, harmonic, neo-psychedelic sound. On Wednesday December 7th at 12:30p.m. they will be joining Samsung in celebrating the launch of Galaxy Nexus with a free intimate concert for fans.
Hailing from Saskatoon, The Sheepdogs, consisting of Ewan Currie on vocals and guitar, Leot Hanson on guitar, Ryan Gullen on bass and Sam Corbett on drums, have become one of the biggest stories of the year in Canadian music. Earlier this year, after months of competing and over 1.5 million votes cast online, The Sheepdogs became the first unsigned band to ever appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. They beat out 15 other bands to win the grand prize which included a contract with Atlantic Records as well as their faces featured on the cover of the prestigious magazine.
Recently, THE SHEEPDOGS’ album, Learn & Burn, officially attained Gold Record certification in Canada. The band also took home three 2011 CASBY awards including Favourite New Artist, Favourite Indie Album and Favourite New Album as well as Rock Album of the Year at the 2011 Western Canadian Music Awards. Earlier this year, The Sheepdogs joined Kings of Leon on their Canadian tour. The band is currently in the midst of their own sold-out Canadian headlining tour that wraps up in Vancouver on December 20.”
