The race is on and incredibly heated in the tablet space. iPad, Xoom, PlayBook and Samsung today has announced an addition to the Galaxy Tab lineup with “World’s Thinnest Mobile Tablets”. At CTIA in Orlando they showed off both the 10.1 and new 8.9 Galaxy Tab. These come in slightly thinner than the iPad at 8.6 millimeters and have a weight of 595 grams for the 10.1-inch tablet and the 8.9-inch weighs 470 grams. As for specs, Android 3.0 Honeycomb is the OS and also has Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, 1GHz dual core processor, support HSPA+ network speeds of up to 21Mbps, Wi-Fi, 3 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera that can record 1080p HD videos, Readers Hub and Music Hub. The 10.1-inch and 8.9-inch Samsung Tab’s are looking at a Summer release but no pricing has been revealed.
Update: Samsung has stated that both of these tablets will be released on June 8th in the States. The 10.1 version will have the following prices: 16GB model at $499 and the 32GB at $599. As for the 8.9-inch the prices are 16GB for $469 and the 32GB is $569.
