Not the biggest surprise in the world but Fido is joining parent company Rogers by increasing the 911 Fees. This goes into effect April 12th and the fee will increase from $0.50 to $0.75 per month plus taxes, but only for those customers “who subscribed to price plans prior to November 4th, 2008”.
You’ll see in the internal document that Fido states “we are simply bringing the rate in line with those charged by other Canadian wireless service providers. Our competition has been charging $0.75 for similar types of rate plans for some time. Customers have a choice. Fido will not require customers to move to new non-SAF plans if they do not wish to do so; customers who wish to migrate to non-SAF plans will not have to pay the 911 emergency access fee (a one-time set-up fee of $35 per line applies).
