Public adds bonus long-distance minutes to some plans

The minutes cover calls to China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the U.K.

Public Mobile

Telus-owned Public Mobile upgraded some of its plans with bonus long-distance minutes.

Public’s $35/60GB 4G plan now includes 100 monthly long-distance minutes to China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, and the U.K. on top of unlimited Canada-wide minutes and messaging.

The $39/50GB 5G Canada/U.S. plan got 250 monthly long-distance minutes to the same locations.

These plans join Public’s $45/65GB 5G Canada/U.S. plan, which has offered 1,000 monthly long-distance minutes to those locations for a while.

Per the fine print on Public’s website, calls using the long-distance minutes must originate from Canada. Moreover, unused minutes expire at the end of your billing cycle.

While the bonus long-distance isn’t likely to win over everyone, anyone with family or friends in those regions may find Public’s plans attractive options. Having some long-distance bundled into the plan rather than having to pay for an add-on is definitely a nice touch.
