Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro after months of rumours.

In a YouTube presentation, PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny outlined the improvements in the mid-generation console update.

According to Cerny, there are three main focuses of the Pro:

  • Larger GPU — up to 45 percent faster than the base PS5
  • Advanced ray tracing — double or even triple the speeds of the standard PS5
  • AI-driven upscaling — PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)

He then proceeded to showcase a variety of PS5 games running with enhancements on the PS5 Pro, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Ghost of TsushimaDemon’s Souls, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Horizon Forbidden WestGran Turismo 7 and Hogwarts Legacy.

In terms of the build of the console itself, the PS5 Pro is the same size as the standard PS5. The updated console also features a nearly identical aesthetic, with the exception of a few horizontal black stripes in the middle.

The presentation concluded by confirming a November 7th launch date for $959.99 CAD. For context, the base PS5 model costs $649, while the Digital Edition model is priced at $579.99 in Canada. The PS5 Pro will be sold with a 2TB SSD and DualSense wireless controller as a disc-less console (with the Disc Drive available to be purchased separately). PlayStation has also confirmed that PS5 Pro pre-orders will go live in Canada on September 26th, although specific retailers have not yet been mentioned.
