Nokia’s X6 smartphone amassed 700,000 reservations and sold out in under 10 seconds, according to reports.
The device became available for the first time in China yesterday through three retail websites, JD, Suning and TMall. The three retailers received a combined 700,000 reservations. According to reports, the device won’t be available again until May 30th.
The device features a 5.8 inch display with a 1080×2280 resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. It will also include an octa-core Snapdragon 636 CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz. It will also have a 12 MP and 5 MP dual camera on the back and a 16 MP selfie camera on the front. In a first from Nokia, the display features a notch .
The device has a number of variants starting at ¥1299 (about $261 CAD). The X6 features impressive specs for such a low cost.
The device appears to be quite popular in China and HMD Global, the company continuing the Nokia brand after it was sold to them in 2015, is considering bringing the device to the global market. Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global’s chief product officer, tweeted a poll asking if people wanted to see the X6 in other markets.
Getting a lot of traffic on this so let’s ask around. Should we bring Nokia X6 to other markets too?
— Juho Sarvikas (@sarvikas) May 17, 2018
The answer was a resounding yes, and Sarvikas hinted it might happen.
With the early success the device has seen in China, it could very well find its way to other markets. At such a low price point, the X6 is definitely a contender in the budget sphere.
