In an effort to better highlight independently developed video games, Apple’s Canadian App Store has launched a new section dedicated to key indie games.
Apple says that this section will feature titles and developers that are “driving innovation” on the iOS platform, and that its goal is to help lesser-known games that otherwise may have flown under the radar reach a wider audience. The indie games area of the app store will be curated by a team of app store editors.
While this may seem like a minor move, app and game discovery is a significant issue in the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store. For a small indie studio releasing its video game on either platform, a dedicated section could make a significant difference in terms of its reach and in turn, revenue for the developer.
