Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) and CIBC Mellon, a company that focuses on the asset servicing needs of Canadian institutional investors, are collaborating to launch the Business Innovation Hub (BIH) to give its students more real-world business experience.
Located at CIBC Mellon, the hub will bring together five Ryerson students from a diverse range of programs like accounting to environmental biology, and five CIBC Mellon employees.
The team will bring their expertise to identify key challenges that CIBC Mellon faces, and come up with innovative solutions over the course of four months. The hub is designed to help both the students and employees hone skills such as problem-solving, presentation, and relationship-building. The teams will gain mentorship from Stuart Baltman, the assistant vice-president of process excellence at CIBC Mellon.
“We are discovering ways to innovate in a controlled manner as we seek to further enhance accuracy, operational efficiency and leverage fresh ideas for doing business, in order to unlock great potential and advance our client experience,” said Richard Anton, the senior vice-president and chief operations officer at CIBC Mellon. “I am excited for the launch of the Business Innovation Hub, which brings together a talented and diverse group of employees and students. I am excited to think about our business in new ways.”
The new hub will be a part of the university’s zone-learning ecosystem, which encourages students to work as part of multidisciplinary teams to gain first-hand, practical experience to create social change, contribute to a big idea or launch a startup.
