CanCon Podcast Ep. 41: Mac vs. PC redux

Apple finally updated its Macbook Pro line of laptops after four long years. In an event one day prior, Microsoft introduced its Surface Studio. The CanCon team asks if Microsoft has managed to take Apple’s title as the king of (post) PC’s.

In an attempt to mimic Apple’s circa 1981 open letter to IBM, Slack wrote an open letter to Microsoft congratulating the company on Teams, Microsoft’s competitor to Slack. The CanCon crew speculates on whether the ad was a PR blunder or three flame emojis.

Canada’s tech landscape is rapidly growing, and along with it, so does the demand for specialized tech talent. The new Canadian government released a plan proving to Canadian tech companies that it is tuned in to the needs of the tech community.

The strategy, among other things, outlines a fast-track visa program that will allow “highly-skilled, low-risk workers” into Canada. The CanCon crew invites friend of the pod Chris Plunkett, director of external relations at Communitech, to talk about the logistics of implementing the new program.

Tune in as CanCon’s podcast crew – Erin Bury, Managing Director of 88 Creative, Gerrit De Vynck, Canadian tech reporter for Bloomberg, Patrick O’Rourke, Senior Editor for MobileSyrup, and Douglas Soltys, BetaKit Editor in Chief – weighs in on the Mac vs PC debate and digs deep into the realities of the current government love-fest.
