Not one to rest on his laurels, Evan Blass, the smartphone world’s most prolific leaker, has just leaked new upcoming smartphone. In a tweet sent out early this morning, Blass revealed a new Sony smartphone, which he claims is called the Xperia X Compact.
He did not provide any details on the device, failing to mention internal specs or potential release date.
Like past Xperia Compact smartphones, it’s safe to say the X Compact will likely feature a 4.7-inch form factor and specs inline with the company’s current crop of high-end smartphones. The phone’s nomenclature also suggests Sony intends this phone to sit alongside the Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia X and Xperia X Performance.
Yeah, Sony’s smartphone lineup is about to get even more convoluted.
Still, we’ve been fans of the company’s Compact lineup for some time now, so it’s not like the X Compact is an unwelcome guest.
If the leak is legitimate (and given Blass’s current track record, there’s a very good chance it is) and Sony follows its past script, the company will announce the Xperia X Compact at its upcoming IFA Berlin keynote. The smartphone may not come to Canada, especially if recent history is any indication. Sony last released a Compact variant alongside the Xperia Z5, its 2015 flagship, which it did not bring to Canada when it began selling the Z5 and Z5 Premium through Bell.
Sony may also unveil its new flagship F8331 smartphone at the event. Photos of the phone recently leaked, revealing it will come with a USB-C port and a slightly redesigned outer shell.
The annual consumer tech show is scheduled to start on September 2. A variety of major tech companies — including Samsung, which has already confirmed it will reveal the new Gear S3 smartwatch at its IFA keynote on August 31 — are scheduled to announce new products.
