Whether you’ve tried them or just seen their extensive marketing efforts on billboards around the country, video-on-demand services Shomi and Crave TV are doing everything possible to take on the Netflix juggernaut.
Last week, both services arrived on Apple TV after a long wait, and now Shomi adds Chromecast support to its mobile repertoire. Already available on Crave TV’s iOS and Android apps, Rogers and Shaw reportedly worked with Google to make the feature as reliable as possible. Curiously, Shomi’s iOS app still lacks AirPlay support.
Shomi is still in beta, and is reportedly due for expansion to other service providers in the near future. Until then, only Rogers and Shaw internet or cable subscribers can sign up for Shomi, which is $8.99 CAD per month.
Google’s Chromecast stick is available for $39 from the Google Store, and the Nexus Player, at $109, is also a Cast receiver.
