HTC’s One M8 is almost nine months old, which means development on its successor is already well under way. Earlier this month, we got wind of the HTC Hima, a device that sounded like a flagship phone and was rumoured to be the One M9. Now there’s some more details on the appearance of the device.
Word comes via Upleaks, which also has a full spec sheet for the device. If this information is genuine, we can expect the HTC One M9 to launch in March 2015 with Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920×1080 pixel display, a 20.7MP rear camera, a 2840mAh battery, Android 5.0, and HTC’s own Sense 7.0. The only ambiguity seems to be with the front-facing camera. Upleaks talks about a 13MP camera or a 4MP UltraPixel sensor up front.
Interestingly, though the display is the same five inches as the M8, dimensions offered by Upleaks suggest the M9 will be just a little bit more compact in height and width than the M8, but a fraction thicker (146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm for the M8 versus 144.3 x 69.4 x 9.56 mm for the M9). We also now know that the device will be available in similar metallic colours to the M8 (grey, silver, gold, and gunmetal gold).
The M9 is expected in March and previous rumours suggested an MWC unveiling in Barcelona. HTC had its own event for the M8 last year, despite the fact that it debuted just a few weeks after MWC, though it’s possible the company will pull a Samsung and take advantage of the massive concentration of journalists and announce at MWC in early March. The M8 was announced and available same-day at Canadian carriers on March 25th of this year.
