Motorola has issued an update to its Camera app for the Moto X (new and old) to allow Android Wear smartwatches to function as remote shutters. This will work on any Android Wear, including non-Motorola ones like the Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch.
The feature has been available in Google’s own Camera app for some time, issuing a Google Now card on the smartwatch to “Take a photo.” A three-second countdown appears and then, after the shutter, a preview is shown on the wrist.
Remote shutter functions identically on the Motorola Camera app, too, but there doesn’t appear to be a way of preventing one’s wrist from buzzing every time short of blocking the app from communicating with Android Wear entirely. (Please correct me if I’m wrong here.)
The update also fixes bugs and reportedly improves performance.
