HTC M8 leak seemingly confirms dual camera array, dual-toned flash and on-screen buttons

What would another season of phone releases be without every shred of surprise extracted from the proceedings like a bird in a jet engine?

And yet here we are again, showing you purported photos of HTC’s upcoming flagship. Who knows, maybe the company enjoys this prerelease fervour? Nevertheless, the HTC M8 is coming, though you’d be hard-pressed, aside from aesthetically minor and functionally significant changes, to tell it apart from its predecessor.

From the front, the 5-inch HTC M8 appears nearly identical to the One, which will be celebrating its first birthday in a few weeks. With a slightly larger screen, a faster processor, and more RAM (we assume), of course the device will be faster, but the real journey to improvement begins on the back: two camera sensors, the top one apparently to aide in focusing. We hope the main sensor boasts a higher resolution while keeping the same large pixel/wide aperture combination, but that has yet to be included in these leaks. It’s also clear from the photos made available by Nowhereelse.fr that the M8 will sport a dual-toned flash, similar to Apple’s iPhone 5s.

These leaks also confirm the addition of on-screen navigation buttons on the M8, which means HTC no longer has to worry about users assigning different functions to the two capacitive keys, as they have since the HTC One X and One S in 2012.

We are hearing rumours of a late March launch for the M8, perhaps in New York City. Whenever the actual announcement happens to be, we’ll be there to cover all the action.
