Good things come to those who wait, and Android users are reaping the benefits of this patience.
This week alone, VSCO Cam and Cal have made the trip over from iOS, and we can now add the excellent word processing app, Quip, to that list.
Quip does a lot of things right, especially when it comes to taking advantage of the small screen. Though Google has improved its in-house Office clone, Quickoffice, and there are other excellent note-taking apps from Simplenote to Evernote to OfficeSuite to Documents To Go, the market is small for those who want to perform real-time collaboration on a smartphone or tablet.
Quip, from former Facebook CTO Bret Taylor, allows multiple users to edit a single document, tracking changes in a non-destructive and highly-logical way. While Quip can be used alone, it really excels when drafts are shared among users; it’s easy to tag other members within an app, and it’s also possible to take a conversation private, away from prying eyes of the team.
The Android app takes advantage of two key differentiations over iOS: it uses stacked, expandable notifications; and it leverages a user’s Google account to quickly sign in to the service without choosing a username or password.
Quip is available on Android smartphones and tablets, in addition to iOS and the web.
