BlackBerry answered the huge demand for BBM by going live with BBM for Android and iPhone yesterday. Millions of people were anticipating this release and around 10:25pm BlackBerry gave a hint of the number of downloads by stating they were ready for the “next 5 million in line” to access the app. A press release was just issued that has completely destroyed those stats.
Within a 24 hour period BlackBerry has seen over 10 million downloads of BBM for Android and iPhone, declaring it to be “one of the best single-day openings for a mobile app to date.”
Andrew Bocking, head of BBM at BlackBerry said, “This has been an incredible launch for BBM across Android and iPhone devices. The mobile messaging market is full of opportunity for BBM. We intend to be the leading private social network for everyone who needs the immediate communication and collaboration of instant messaging combined with the privacy, control and reliability delivered through BBM.”
In addition, BlackBerry also revealed that “in the near future” BBM Voice and Video calling will be coming to Android and iOS.
