The popular free iOS game Temple Run is coming to Android on March 27th after a long delay that was supposed to have its debut in early February.
The run-jump-dodge platformer debuted on iPhone in August 2011 and has been downloaded 40 million times since then, becoming one of the top grossing apps in the App Store with its value-add in-app purchases model. We’re assuming the same will be true of the Android version, which has since the beginning emphasized a free-to-play or ad-based gaming model over paid versions.
“We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players.”
No doubt Temple Run for Android will find similar success, but we just hope Imangi Studios figures out how to restore previously-purchased in-game items between devices.
