OK, so we know we told you that Android 4.0.3 was just released, but that’s not entirely true. See, that was a release for the Android Open Source Project and wasn’t specific to any one device. Or, at least, it wasn’t specific to your device. And, yes, we also told you the Galaxy Nexus received its first over-the-air update, but that was still Android 4.0.1. You still with us?
Google has started updating the GSM Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.0.2 which brings it up to feature parity with the newly-released LTE version from Verizon. Along with some visual improvements to parts of the OS, it allows for using the Mobile Hotspot when connected to a VPN. It also increases audio volume in Google’s turn-by-turn Navigation app. On the downside it removes native DivX support (though it will be re-added at a future date). There’s a Verizon PDF with a complete change log.
Officially, Android 4.0.2 is the latest version for the Galaxy Nexus, even though the Nexus S will be updated to 4.0.3 (when you eventually get it). The Galaxy Nexus will be updated to that version in the coming weeks, so hold your horses. If you don’t want to wait, there’s always XDA-Developers.
What we do know is that Google is working feverishly to not only correct any latent bugs in the OS, but to add missing features too. This is what you get for having a Nexus device, whether you like it or not.
