Samsung’s C-Lab has just released its latest innovation, a new gadget designed to make early parenthood a little easier.
The smart baby carrier, called Dr. Macaron, has several functions that help a parent carry their newborn and know how healthy they are at any minute of the day.
Dr. Macaron distributes the baby’s weight away from one part of the parent’s body using a convertible hipseat system that’s adjustable with just one hand.
In addition, the smart carrier also serves as a ‘smart infant care’ platform. By putting the small macaron-shaped sensor into the seat of the carrier, it can monitor whether the baby needs a diaper change. The sensor also serves as an activity tracker than can let parents know how long they’ve been on their feet.
The accompanying app allows parents to easily record their baby’s activities and schedules. The macaron sensor sends data to the app, which is presented to parents on their smartphones, allowing them to keep track of their baby’s cycles.
“Questioning things we took for granted and trying to improve upon them. That is the underlying approach for Dr. Macaron. It ends with a warm hug utilizing design and technology,” says the company in a blog post. “Here at the C-Lab in Samsung Electronics we’re looking for unique and different solutions to life’s many questions with the answer of making it better.”
