Samsung debuts a US-only, Samsung-only streaming music service

Oh, wicked is the scourge of geographic restrictions!

Samsung has debuted a free and unlimited streaming service for its range of high-end Galaxy devices today, but it’s only available in the United States. The Slacker-powered service has a beautiful, very un-Samsung interface, and allows fine-tuning one of 200 stations. The full feature list is below, but it’s not going do much good; even though Slacker itself is available in Canada, and provides ad-supported free listening (or $3.99/month ad-free listening), Milk Music, the strange name of Samsung’s whitelabel equivalent, will likely never be available here.

Android Police has a guide for root users to install it on non-Samsung devices, and you can likely use a VPN like Hotspot Shield or Surfeasy to get around the restrictions, but we would just as easily recommend Songza, or the real Slacker Radio, as better options.

INSTANT AND EFFORTLESS MUSIC LISTENING
• Stumble across new hits and old favourites with a turn of the dial.
• Music plays instantly, as you scan through stations.
• No registration or set-up required.

CREATE YOUR SIGNATURE SOUND
• Customize the dial to show only genres and stations you like.
• “My Stations” collects all the stations you love and those you create into a single station that’s easily accessible on the dial.
• Fine-tune stations based on popularity, novelty and song favourites.

MORE OF WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR
• Listen to over 200 genre stations, curated from a music library of over 13 million songs.
• “Spotlight” offers a curated selection handpicked by music tastemakers and influencers.
