Xbox FanFest returns to Toronto as part of 25th anniversary celebrations

The last time FanFest was in the city was 2022

Xbox is launching a global tour for its FanFest community event, and Canada is getting in on the fun.

To coincide with its ongoing 25th anniversary celebrations, the company is hosting various FanFest in eight cities, including Toronto. For the uninitiated, these events have historically served as a way to bring the E3/Xbox Games Showcase experience to those who aren’t in Los Angeles, offering a livestream of the main event, playable demos, giveaways and more.

While the flagship LA FanFest will take place on June 7 alongside the big annual Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox notes that the other global events will be held later on “throughout the year.” The company adds that those interested should stay tuned to the official FanFest website for more information on event timing and how to secure a ticket.

While Xbox hasn’t yet revealed much about this year’s FanFest programming, it did confirm that each event will be uniquely tailored to that particular city. Specifically, the company teased that these individual events are about “celebrating the local Xbox community and the ways they engage with gaming, and the people that make it special.”

Therefore, it will be interesting to see what sorts of Canadian-specific things might be present at FanFest Toronto. It’s worth mentioning that one of Xbox’s biggest games of the year (which will also get its own “Direct” stream right after the Xbox Games Showcase) is Gears of War E-Day from Vancouver-based The Coalition. It remains to be seen whether Xbox will lean into that Canadian angle even more at the Toronto event.

Either way, this is a pretty notable move from Xbox since the last time FanFest was in Toronto was 2022. Xbox says it’s holding this global FanFest tour in celebration of the brand’s 25th anniversary. Asha Sharma, the recently appointed head of Microsoft Gaming, also said this week that FanFest is part of “the return of Xbox” that she’s been promoting. These plans also include the company’s next-gen console, codenamed Project Helix. Presumably, Sharma will take the stage at the Xbox Games Showcase to formally discuss some of this.
